mapping mail to DISCARD doesn't seem to work

Hi,
I followed the instructions in the "mailmap" screen to create an email address that would silently discard any email:

If you direct a mailmap to DISCARD, the email will be discarded silently, without notifying the sender. To use this feature, just enter DISCARD for the destination address.

My mailmap directs email sent to trash@shiloh.io to DISCARD, as the instructions say. However, when I sent a test message to trash@<mydomain> it bounces back with the following error:

This is the mail system at host mxc03.zoneedit.com. I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not be delivered to one or more recipients. It's attached below. For further assistance, please send mail to postmaster. If you do so, please include this problem report. You can delete your own text from the attached returned message. The mail system <discard@localhost> (expanded from <trash@shiloh.io>): mail for localhost loops back to myself

Can anyone spot what I'm doing wrong?
