Domain transfer without using credits?

As I understand it if I move my domains to Zoneedit and use them as my registrar, the DNS features are free, correct?

I have 2 domains registered elsewhere that are expiring in the next 4 weeks and would like to move here, however it appears that in order to change my registrar to ZoneEdit I have to first register the domains here for DNS services...and as such, consume credits?

Is there another way to do a domain transfer without needing credits to accomplish something that would otherwise be free once the transfer is complete? It seems I'm stuck in a vicious circle.
