Recent purchase, can I Change Domain Name without cost.

I recently purchased my first domain name. I've considered another(second) domain name I would like to use instead of the first. Can I simply change the first one I purchased to the second domain name I would like to use? Of course as long as it's available.

Or do I have to purchase the new one and either utilize the first or just eat the cost and let the timer expire on my ownership of the first one.
