Very simple DDNS client for Windows?

I'm looking for a very simple DDNS client for Windows that works with ZoneEdit. I have bash and python scripts, but I am looking for something I can put on my mum's Windows laptop and runs as a service without having to install anything else.

I found an old tool called CobainDDNS, which looked like what I am looking for, but for some reason I cannot get it to work, but as far as I can tell, it should work, unless AUTH tokens have become mandatory instead of username/password.

Thanks.

Hello Jason404,

There’s a lovely piece of software called Dynsite, which continues to be maintained by its creator Noel Danjou. You can download it here: http://noeld.com/dynsite.asp

NOTE: DynSite is Shareware which means that you can try it for free for 30 days, but then you have to register.

For a walkthrough on installing and configuring it, please see the Dynsite tutorial https://cp.easydns.com/support/dynamic/clients/dynsite/

- Just change the Service to Zoneedit instead of EasyDNS. Though it's pretty straightforward so I don't suspect you'll have many issues.

I highly recommend that you use the Zoneedit account username in conjunction with the DYN Auth Token and not the actual account password.

If you have any further questions or concerns, let us know.

Hi Chris, yes that's just the sort of thing I have been looking for. £20 is a bit much to pay to give my mum tech support though. Cheers.

Thanks, that's interesting. I'm not sure how I would always have that running in the background on my mum's laptop though. Also, I cannot seem to get it to work. I get no output in the response box and the IP address does not change (I'm using Chrome 77). Maybe something to do with me enabling 2FA on my account?

Around 15 years ago, before I found ZoneEdit, I used to use no-ip.com for this. I remember the DDNS update client of theirs to be neat and exactly the sort of thing that would be ideal what I am trying to do here. I might go back and use one of their free domains just for this.

It's possible there is something security-wise in Chrome that is blocking it from working. I would recommend trying Firefox to see if you get the same results. 2FA on your account wouldn't block the dynamic update. Just ensure that you're using the username of your account and the Dynamic Auth Token.

Unfortunately, the only custom client we've made is for MAC and even then it was designed for EasyDNS and not Zoneedit, but there are instructions we provide to swap that: https://support.zoneedit.com/index....-osx-dynamic-dns-client-to-work-with-zoneedit
