ns16 and ns9 have differences in configuration

It seems to me that you are having some sort of problems with replication and/or configuration between ns16.zoneedit.com and ns9.zoneedit.com. My domain registrar send an e-mail this morning saying my DNS service failed their automatic testing. When checking the results myself, noticed that there are multiple fails and warnings (see below). Will you be fixing this any time soon or should I consider moving my DNS records to some other service provider?

Fail 1: Zone data version

The name servers do not have the same version of the DNS data. Please make sure that all name servers get their zone record updated to the latest version.

Name server
IP address
Serial

ns16.zoneedit.com
104.236.6.173
1425593323

ns9.zoneedit.com
23.27.48.60
1418142714

Fail 2: Admin email

Nameservers have different admin email addresses in their SOA records

Warning 1: Master name server

The master nameserver is not one of the public nameservers for the zone: dns0.zoneedit.com

Warning 2: Reverse records (PTR)

At least one name server is missing a reverse record which points back to the hostname.

ns16.zoneedit.com

pdns1.zoneedit.com

ns9.zoneedit.com

HI there

In almost all cases these warnings are just that .. warnings... as our DNS architecture might not be set up in a a way that passes the dns checkers sniff tests... this does not mean that the DNS is bad .. only that it does not conform to the testing methodology. Can you please reply with the domain name of concern so I can take a look and see if there is anything in the zone file that we have that would be cause for concern.

thanks and take care

Hi,

The thing is that previously your service passed the tests (at least zone data version), because the registrar has not sent me e-mails about DNS not fuctioning properly before. I actually have two domains, both using ns16 and ns9 having the exactly same issues. I haven't been doing any changes to the records lately.

The domain names are:
hukala.fi
mediamonitori.fi

In case you want to test yourself, the DNS test of .fi domain registrar can be found at http://dnstest.ficora.fi/dnstest.php?type=delegated&lang=en

Cheers,
Otto

I know what that problem is between the serials in NS16 and NS9, it's a long story but the zone is the same across both. That said I was thinking about a way to fix it yesterday and will try to get a fix in over the long weekend.

As for the forward vs reverse it really should not matter (in practice) but if it's preventing you from getting your zones delegated out in .fi then you could switch ns16 for ns17. If you're in Europe, ns17 is in Zurich anyway which may work out better for you.

It will pass the .fi tests on both counts:

Marks-MacBook-Pro:tmp markjeftovic1$ host ns17.zoneedit.com
ns17.zoneedit.com has address 136.0.0.133
Marks-MacBook-Pro:tmp markjeftovic1$ host 136.0.0.133
133.0.0.136.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer ns17.zoneedit.com.
