New registrar rejects NS

New Member
Hallo,

we recently moved our domain fastpath.it to a new registrar, but upon entering the suggested NSs for the domain (dns1.zoneedit.com, dns2.zoneedit.com) we got the error "Nameserver dns1.zoneedit.com has no NS record for dns1.zoneedit.com".

Replacing dns1 and dns2 with ns2.zoneedit.com and ns9.zoneedit.com does not seem to help either; the error we get from the registrar's interface becomes "ns2.zoneedit.com has a SOA record that includes an unlisted nameserver (dns0.zoneedit.com)". Then, after we add dns0.zoneedit.com as tertiary NS as the message seems to suggest, the interface complains again: "Nameserver ns2.zoneedit.com has no NS record for dns0.zoneedit.com".

Can you shed some light on this?

Thanks,
Alan

Hello,

All ZE users use the same name servers:
  • dns1.zoneedit.com
  • dns2.zoneedit.com

These name servers resolve:

;; QUESTION SECTION:
;dns1.zoneedit.com. IN A

;; ANSWER SECTION:
dns1.zoneedit.com. 91 IN A 45.77.82.193

;; QUESTION SECTION:
;dns2.zoneedit.com. IN A

;; ANSWER SECTION:
dns2.zoneedit.com. 300 IN A 45.79.110.158

best,

Then does the "Nameserver dns1.zoneedit.com has no NS record for dns1.zoneedit.com" error from the registrar make any sense?

dns0.zoneedit.com is a hidden primary and is not to be delegated to a domain.

You should use dns1.zoneedit.com and dns2.zoneedit.com

If the Registrar is not allowing you to add these nameservers on to your domain, I would ask that you contact that Registrar and find out exactly why.

All SOA records for Zoneedit customers will be something like:

@ IN SOA dns0.zoneedit.com. zone.zoneedit.com. 1532291436 3600 600 604800 300

Hallo,
it seems that dns1 and dns2.zoneedit.com still refer to the "legacy" ns2/ns9.zoneedit.com NS records for fastpath.it.
The .it registry mandates that the nameserver list must strictly match the NS records.
Can this be fixed?
Thanks
Alan
